Carrying weapons in Switzerland

Take care with soft-airguns! They could be confused with real firearms by the police!

The Swiss, sons of Tell! A lot of Swiss men, as well as Swiss women, are involved in shooting sports in their free-time. Private firearms, particularly army weapons, are widespread and can often be seen in public.  In spite of this the Swiss do not identify themselves with guns and nobody would think of taking one out in public, let alone to a football match. It is also not permitted to bring weapons into a stadium. If you are found with a firearm on you as you enter a stadium, you could face serious consequences. Even if you have heard that in Switzerland people are relaxed about weapons, observe the respective laws, and at best leave your firearm at home!

Police tips for EURO 2008

Avoid problems by observing the following tips:
  • Leave your firearms at home and do not even bring them to Switzerland!
  • Firearms are not allowed into stadiums!
  • Be aware that any applications to the Swiss authorities for the import of firearms and carrying of firearms may take much longer than normal shortly before EURO 2008!
